Dr. Dave (Roberts), Anthropologist, Photographer, Historian... Dr. Dave has worked in the field of applied anthropology for over thirty-five years from a conference speaker and published author, to a field researcher... from the Caribbean, to Central and South America.
Well… I think you will agree the About page covers a lot of territory, but is it all about letting future employers (cruise lines, tours companies, etc.) know what I do, and how I do it.
I like public speaking and getting “out there” to give an audience a good show, and sometimes even impart some knowledge. Yes, I subscribe to the Las Vegas school of teaching… at conferences, at universities, and aboard ship. An entertained audience is a learning audience (also having fun).
Many years ago I started off as many professor types, with throwing bits of chalk at sleeping students, and then I graduated to throwing pieces of hard candy to students with good questions or answers during lectures. Now I just present interesting and fun lecture material, and guess what? Yes, problem solved… no more sleepers in the audience.
I like slide material that is pro quality with lot’s of “punchy” colors, and material that gets the grey matter excited… Telling a story from a personal experience, or weaving in some bit of history that is beyond history books, like my uncle the pirate.
It is all about edu-tainment and bringing the presentations alive for the audience.
