Finding food in San Jose, Costa Rica

_DSC6716I have explained to the grand kids that Nene (the wife) is a cooker, and Bahbah (me) is an eater… and they get that. While the wife excels at preparing fine dishes and “feeding the whole Armenian Army,” my skills lie in the finding and consuming camp. And while we in San Jose, Costa Rica, a while back, we found Soda Restorant Donde Nena, a wonderful little place to eat in the middle of the city.

The beans and rice were wonderful, and adding a fried egg was a good idea. The sauces were traditional (tasty but not hot), and the meats and side dishes were the best we had in Costa Rica.

We had asked the local police for a good place to eat (we always ask locals) and they directed us to a typical tourist spot with high prices and kind of a Disney version of a Costa Rican restaurant… we walked out. And we just happen to find the Soda Restorant Donde Nena walking back to the hotel. The food looked tasty and the smells coming from the kitchen were wonderful. An hour later we signed on as regular customers. And the prices were easy on our pocketbooks. What the place lacks in fancy is more than made up for with a nice family atmosphere.

So if you are an eater like me, stop on by and tell them Dr. Dave sent you.
